Liza Sylvestre

I grew up in Minneapolis, studied Fine Art at the University of Minnesota, then moved to Miami after graduation and lived there for almost 7 years before moving back to Minneapolis in 2012. In 2013 myself and another artists founded Creating Language Through Arts, a grant funded arts educational residency that taught our deaf and hearing students how to use art as a means of communication when there are language barriers due to hearing loss. Currently I'm working on new abstract mixed media paintings and some new conceptual video and performance work. This Fall I will become a student again (yikes!) as I pursue my MFA at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign. More Info

My Hobbies I recently became a new mom, so my hobby is mainly hanging out with my son Ellis! When I have time I like to watch movies, cook, and go for the occasional run.

My inspirations I'm continuously inspired by the next show and the next idea I want to execute. Each of my exhibitions teaches me and each new body of work is part of a continual growth. I'm also really inspired by creative writing, good conversation, and the artists Ursula von Rydingsvard and Michele Oka Doner.

My message for this community You have a lot to offer the world because of your disability. It gives you a unique perspective on things, which can be incredibly powerful. Don't shy away from being different.
