Jessica Ryan-Ndegwa

I live in London, England, I have recently, graduated with a BA (Hons), in Product and Furniture Design at Kingston University. Being born with Cerebral palsy, I don’t see my disability as something negative but rather as a positive. I feel as if I have a unique advantage at viewing the world in a different way. Through my childhood from the age of (Yr5) I attended two special needs schools, which really helped me in becoming the person I am today. Pushing ahead through my school years and going on to study a degree in design has motivated me more to overcome my disability. As a designer I believe that every individual is different and I believe good design helps people do things they might otherwise not be able to do. Studying a design degree has opened my eyes up to designing for disability, and I have enjoyed my journey through University in being able to achieve a bachelorette degree at the end of it. I see myself as an empathetic energetic peoples’ designer with the focus on working for people with impairments and disabilities at the core of my practice in a collaborative field. More Info

My Hobbies I enjoy singing and travelling, I am very outgoing and very sociable, as well as a keen learner and who enjoys learning and experiencing new things.

My inspirations Jillian Mercardo, a fashion blogger and model who has Muscular Dystrophy and Nick Vujicic, and author and motivational speaker who was born with no limbs.

My message for this community  I would like to pass on my knowledge and inspire a younger generation of people that may be facing difficulties in finding themselves and tell them that nothing can stop you but yourself, and don’t let anyone else stop you in pursuing your aspirations. Stay strong and keep pushing ahead!

My creative work

Flash-Drive Key: An occupational therapist explained to me how, in her busy life, she often loses or forgets her flash drive, which stores crucial and confidential information about her patients. I made a deadlock key, with a USB drive attached to the end, so she could store it on her keychain, where it would be safe and always close to her.
