Julie McNamara

Julie McNamara

Born to Liverpool Irish parents, a Catholic father and Protestant Mother, Julie Mc was raised to be politically aware. Conflict resolution began at the dinner table. She began her career in Art school and then moved into Theatre in the community. Her work has always been driven by a passion for social justice. She seeks out excluded voices and stories from the political periphery and brings them centre stage. She is a published poet, an award winning playwright and an outspoken voice amidst the Mental Health Service Survivor community. Artistic Director of Vital Xposure theatre, she remains a passionate advocate for Disability Rights. Vital Xposure is a disability-led touring theatre company based at Hackney Empire Theatre, placing talented disabled artists in the mainstream.
