Work related questions:
Q: What kind of recruiting process is in place to employ candidates with disabilities?
A: A work coordinator that represented my first Epic Chef contacted me about a potential job. The next 2 folks I hires were the adult children of guys I worked with in Corporate America. AFter that, I haven't recruited anyone. I've had dozens of parents/individuals reach out to me after finding out about us through articles written, evening new spots about us and social media.
Q: What kind of training is given to new employees to get them ready for the job? What is the usual training duration?
A: Hands on working each of the different work stations. I've made it a point to streamline each work area so most all of my staff can successfully complete it. What is the usual training duration? Total of 8 hours max.
Q: What is the general skill set that you look for in a candidate with disabilities?
A: I pray God will bring the right people. As a result I haven't focused on a particular skillset. If they are interested in an Epic Chef job in the Dog House, they have to visit to ensure it is something they want to do. So far, I haven't turned anyone away, and currently have 17 on the waiting list.
Q: What is your suggestion/tips for families of children with disabilities who want to get their kids ready for employment?
A: Wigglewow should open up near them in the next 3-5 years where their adult children will work in a Christian environment and where owners will appreciate what they can do and not focus on what they can't!
Q: What is the best way to accelerate awareness and promote an inclusive workforce?
A: A very successful business model that goes nationwide very quickly. Then there will be tons of copy cats. That is why I'm so passionate about this. I know as God blesses Wigglewow, there will be many copycats pop up, but I don't see that as a negative. We need more job opportunities for this population. Our culture has not appreciated them long enough, so I'm personally doing something about it...one Epic staff member at a time!
