Making a difference in the community for people with disabilities One of the greatest modern challenges we have is loneliness and isolation. This has been highlighted by COVID19 and with luck everyone will have more empathy for those who don't find it so easy to get out and interact with society. It is our dream that by using WelcoMe more and more people will feel comfortable about going not only to the places that they know but the places that they don't know as well.
Inspiration behind Neatebox For 18 years I(Gavin Neate) served as a Mobility Instructor with Guide Dogs for the Blind in the UK. My job was training people how to use their new guide dog. I became frustrated that customer service personnel seldom seemed to know what to do to serve my clients. I became interested in smart technology and looked for ways in which I could potentially train staff members before my client arrived
Who can benefit from Neatebox One of my greatest visions has been to ensure that WelcoMe was totally pan-disability in its reach but more than that I wanted it to be seen as a solution that would also help businesses provide better service through happier more confident staff. So in answer to this question, I very much hope everyone can benefit from WelcoMe.
Our message We have many challenges currently but we also have the eyes of the media on us. We are in a position where we can choose to be seen as victims or empowered to demand the world take notice of us. I have always been a fan of the Social Model of Disability. I use it to split the world into two. The enabled and those who have not been enabled yet. When we look at disability and its complications in this way we see that the reason the world works for some people and not others is because it has been designed by those who have historically been able to take part. This has meant that "disabled" people have been seen as those who need to be included. When society recognises that it is the world's design at fault and not ours then we can help them to enable us. With an enabled population mainstream society will see historically disabled people in a new light. Top tip. Don't just champion where society is going wrong. When you see a solution champion it. Quite obviously I feel our customer service app WelcoMe is worthy of being championed but this is more of a change in attitude for all our solutions. Find what works and get behind it with positivity and determination.
