Be My Eyes is an app that connects blind people with volunteer helpers from around the world via live video chat. Currently we are in 140 countries and we have 339,000 sighted helpers and 25,600 blind users, which is impressive — but what I’m really surprised by is the fact that we are now connecting people in 80 different languages. Inspiration behind Be My Eyes Inspired from founder Hans Jorgen Wilberg who himself is a vision impaired and he is member of the Danish Association of the Blind and also chairman for the blind association in his area. He knows lot of blind people. When he got himself a iPhone, he started using FaceTime. He spoke to some of his blind friends about it and one of them said he can use it when he needs any visual assistance. He found this idea very cool. But he said he always had to call someone when he needed help. That’s what made me think we should make a group of volunteers who could answer such a call.
