Bricks for Autism

Bricks for Autism

Bricks for Autism was founded by Dr. Gina de la Cuesta who is a Clinical Psychologist specializing in Autism. This social enterprise offers training for professionals working in the field of autism wishing to facilitate LEGO-based therapy groups. LEGO-based therapy is an innovative and increasingly popular social development program for young people with autism to help them develop social interaction skills while working together to build Lego® models. Making a difference in the community for people with disabilities Bricks for Autism offers training for those wishing to facilitate LEGO-based therapy groups. LEGO-based therapy helps children develop their social interaction skills through collaborative, facilitated LEGO play. We are also working on developing the materials and further developing our online offering, so we can help more children in more parts of the world.

Inspiration behind Bricks for Autism Bricks for Autism is a Community Interest Company and was founded by Dr Gina de la Cuesta in 2018. Gina wrote a research paper evaluating outcomes following LEGO-based therapy in 2008 and contributed to the manual that was published in 2014. Gina noticed that there was a huge demand for high quality LEGO-based therapy training, so she set up the company to help more people become trained as LEGO-based therapy facilitators. There are now over a thousand people who have been trained by Bricks for Autism, and countless LEGO-based therapy groups have been started around the globe.

Who can benefit from Bricks for Autism The training course is aimed at professionals who want to set up a LEGO based therapy group. The research has been largely focused on children with autism, but groups are often mixed ages and profiles of need.

Our message 2020 has been a unique and challenging year, and it has changed the way we interact with each other at an alarming speed. LEGO-based therapy hasn’t been possible for the vast majority of children this year, and we hope that groups will be able to start again in 2021. We are also working on some exciting new developments- watch this space!
