Special iApps

Special iApps has developed award-winning educational apps for kids to learn and develop. Special iApps was founded by Beverley and Colin Dean to teach their younger son William, who has Down syndrome and autism. Since they didn’t find any available apps that were easily configurable to suit William’s learning style, they decided to take matters into their own hands and developed apps that are suitable for William. Today Special iApps are used by schools, parents, health care professionals and therapists in more than 100 countries with 25 different languages supported. More Info

Making a difference in the community for people with disabilities Our apps are helping kids learn and develop. We’ve had feedback from both parents and professionals saying that watching their kids use our apps shows supporting adults that the kids can do much more. When kids can’t speak and can’t write then they can demonstrate what they know and can do by using edtech. Our flagship app Special Words has made a huge difference and transformed many lives by helping kids speak, improving fine motor skills, improving self esteem and self confidence as well as building vocabulary and learning to read.

Inspiration behind Special iApps Special iApps was founded in 2011. The inspiration behind the organization is our younger son William. He has Down syndrome and autism with a number of medical conditions. We wanted to create apps that could be personalized to suit his learning style and pace that could also be adapted as he progressed. As parents we wanted to do our best to support him and having tech backgrounds could visualize what we could do to support kids like William.

Inspiration Matters

Who can benefit from Special iApps Our apps can be used at schools, at home and support therapy sessions. For the grown ups they can save time preparing resources. We have designed our apps for exceptional children and special educational needs where the apps are first used with support and guidance with any child during kindergarten. For those with disabilities we support them from birth to adulthood. We support a wide range of disabilities including autism, Down syndrome, hearing & visual impairment as well as assistive switch users.

Our message We all continue to learn and develop every day of our lives at difference paces, never give up your journey to be the best you can be.
