A resilient journey of a non-profit executive director and an author
Jay has survived multiple cancers while losing his thyroid, eighty-five percent of his eyesight, and both his kidneys. He works with several organizations to help others live better lives while dealing with a terminal illness and is an executive director at the Blum Family Foundation. Jay is also an Amazon bestselling author with publications like "The Internet as a Marketing Tool, and "Over the Ocean and to the Links: A Golfer's Journey".
How do you usually pick a subject for your books? What is your dream writing project?J: I choose to write what inspires me. It could be a snippet of news that I hear that sparks an idea of a commentary idea or fictional book generated by that spark.
What is your most memorable work and why?J: I love all my books. Each book shares a different part of my mind. My wants, desires, hopes and dreams.
How do you face obstacles in life? What keeps you moving forward?J: Obstacles are always going to be there. I recognize it and hope to recognize the block before I dive too much down the rabbit hole. When I do, I use the the S.M.A.R.T. (smart, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely) method to set achievable yet still challenging goals. Then track your progress so you can make adjustments along the way, if necessary. I always have an end in sight and work hard to get there.
What are your other hobbies?J: Reading, advocating for change, hanging out with family
What tips/advice do you have for those in our community who are interested in writing a book?J: Just do it. Don't allow doubt, friends, family or anything else stand in your way. There is a reason you are interested in writing. Most likely because you feel that you have something to say or want to create a world all of your own. If you don't write then you can't share it.
Any special message for our community?J: Writing is not an exact science. It comes from a spot deep inside you. Want to write? All you have to do is start tapping keys.
