A musical journey of a talented singer and songwriter
Julia’s passion for music was encouraged by her mother who also arranged for singing lessons. Julia has used a wheelchair since her childhood when she lost function in her legs due to spinal muscular atrophy. As she was professionally growing in her talent, she faced prejudice as a result of her disability. She unwaveringly pursued her art because she was confident in her talent did not to let a wheelchair hold her back. She has been a runner-up in season three of Faktor A, the Russian version of The X Factor and a semi-finalist in Eurovision Song Contest in 2018. Julia has gone on to release her music including her latest song called “Summer” in 2019.
Can you tell us about your musical journey? How has music influenced your life?J: My way as musician began with imitation sounds which surrounded me in the childhood. It was not important at all that it, knock of heels on a parquet, grandfather's sneezing or the favourite song. Everything was interesting to me and I sought to repeat yes sir as I could. Perhaps from me the excellent parodist would turn out, but mother having noticed in me tendency to a sound extraction and sent me to the course of singing. We were engaged in a vocal. I gradually grew professionally and achieved new results. There were times when everything around would become something against me. Doors were closed, and to me unambiguously let know that they not special and that believe in me. As a rule it was connected with prejudices into the account of my carriage. The thought of it helped me to keep, I knew who I am is also me me did not existence or lack of couple of wheels below at all. Music penetrated all my life: Both maiden dreams and a teenage revolt, friendship expressed itself in a sound too. My best friend Syoma who is not today with us any more opened to me eyes on music as on the driving force of life. I tested in different styles. The priest, fate, threw. Now to me to liking the horizons of electronic music which appeared much more richly than I thought earlier.
Which is your most memorable performance so far and why?J: I cannot mark out any one performance. At each stage they were extremely important for me and their scale for every period of my life was equivalent. Since the very first performance on the stage in 11 years and finishing in the afternoon. For me a scene - parallel reality. If you get on it, without having left life behind the scenes, then the scene can not forgive you such things.
What challenges did you face during your school days? How did you motivate yourself to face those challenges?J: Some difficulties were, but they had no relation to communication with peers. I studied at usual school with ordinary children and the childhood knew that we in effect what we do not differ from each other in. Looking back I understand that parents gave me the correct installations. Costed me years in 5 to complain to mother that I am offended she spoke so: "Yulya, give we we will solve the adult problems with the father, and you will solve the nurseries." - I of course took offense then, but now I understand that such position and built up in me the correct character. It also allowed me to establish the correct relations with people to this day.
Who is your musical inspiration?J: To music I am inspired by music. Perhaps it is impossible to allocate one person. Creativity is the river and if you stopped to bathe or drink, then it is difficult to tell what water sates your body. I prefer to travel along the bed of the river, enjoying new types.
What are your other hobbies?J: Earlier I was fond of many things connected with design and the fine arts. I looked for myself and quite assumed that music will not become my all and I will find myself in what that. I sometimes do references of designs for covers of songs, but only at that level to let know to the master that I want to receive as a result. Mostly music is mine work, a hobby and meaning of life. Perhaps the charitable movement #цветыдобра is possible to call a hobby. His idea is in what children earn to themselves on treatment, by means of an auction for which they offer the works. Thus we combine business with pleasure. Donations and aspiration to creative self-expression in painting.
What is your favorite place to visit? What do you love about that place?J: How to be told "Not the place decorates the person, and the person" therefore I cannot tell the place where to be that point on the map, I always decorate the place with the mood. And my mood if depends on scenery, then only in the most insignificant degree. On the present my mood is influenced by people. Their presence or absence. Therefore I will answer your question so. Not important where, it is important with whom.
What is your suggestion for families of children with disabilities to empower their children?J: First of all I see need of formation of the correct relation for the child to myself. Sources of all in family. It is fragile balance between: I can do everything and I pettiness. The excess in one of these parties can play a dirty trick with the child. It is important to remember that the relation has to be the same as though this child was absolutely healthy and prophesied it career of the astronaut. But such relation is closely weaved with education of by parents. If not all, then a lot of things the child adopts from the closest to him people.
What tips/advice do you have for those in our community who are interested in learning music?J: I do not like to give advice, but if you asked. Recommendations same as well as for all. Listen to different music, in particular that which you want to create. Listen to yourself to understand what music in you responds. Listen to those who believe in you to increase greatly the force. Listen, but do not take very much to heart those who does not believe in you to feel that you move, and you do not stand still.
Any special message for our community?J: Lead full life. Do not try to be for all good. Set the purposes and reach them.
