Ralph Solomon Lim Siruelo Interview

Young boy with autism learning piano by converting musical notes to numbers

Music has played an important part in Ralph’s life. He does not talk much but loves to play the piano and has proudly memorized Christmas songs like Joy to the World and Jingle Bells as well as Bach’s Minuet in G. Ralph does not read notes but loves numbers. Realizing this, his music teacher adopted a smart way to teach Ralph. She converted musical notes to numbers which has helped Ralph to play the piano. Ralph loves to help his parents with house chores like chopping vegetables, cooking rice and watering the plants. In his leisure time he loves to work on puzzles and spent time on the computer. Ralph’s mom, Christine Lim Siruelo has answered on his behalf. We are proud of Ralph’s talent and his sincere work.

The interview with Ralph Solomon Lim Siruelo was conducted by Uplifting Voices in April 2018. More Info

When and how did you start learning piano? How often do you practice?R: Ralph started to be exposed in music when he was 9 years old. But since it was not followed through regularly and had brief periods of downtime due to some constraints like schedules and financial issues, he had only returned to playing the piano again for the last 5 years.
He practices everyday at 1 hour per day at home aside from his actual piano lesson schedule of twice a week at 1 hour per session.

What is your favorite song to play on the piano?R: He has 2 favorite songs and these are “Amazing Grace” and “To Rescue A Sinner Like Me”.. Now he is practicing a new piece entitled “I Stand Redeemed” and we are hopeful he can complete and master this piece as well.

What are your other hobbies?R: When he is not busy doing household chores and not being asked to help around the house, he would always set up the Iphone and connect it with a blue tooth speaker open Google to search YouTube and play videos on gospel hymns, preaching and cartoons..

What is your favorite place to visit? What do you like about that place?R: Too many to mention! He simply loves hanging out in different places like malls, supermarket, church, parks, nearby local store, arcade like Timezone and if budget would allow, he really loves to travel! He went to HK Disneyland last 2016 and Sydney Acquarium, Blue Mountain, Bondi Beach, Featherdale Wildlife and Madame Tussauds Sydney last 2017.. He loves the long commute in trains. When inside buildings, he is also amused at riding elevators and escalators.

What do you like to do when you are with your family?R: Aside from bonding during leisure, our personal family devotion time is always a priority which includes responsive reading of the Bible. He loves reading verses alternately with us.

Any special message for our community?R: Let us continue to explore and tap the talents that our God has bestowed upon us keeping in mind that everything we do, we do it in the name and for the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
