Art aided autistic artistic boy to focus on positivity, love, dignity, and loyalty
Max has a special mission of awareness about educating people about perspective of autism spectrum through his artistic gifts. This aspiring artist and author annually organizes an art show for kids with ASD called, Youth Artists on the Spectrum. At age 12 he has compiled his talented work into a book,” Hello, My Name is Max and I Have Autism!”. His foundation, Blue Ribbon Arts, utilizes a portion of his book sales to create a grant for kids with ASD who need help in accessing the arts. This includes help for supplies, classes, free instrument rental, or therapy. We want to applaud Max for his outstanding positive impactful work and enormous talent.
How did “Art” save you?How do you pursue art in your day to day activity?M: It helped me to deal with my aggression, anxiety and depression. It helped me focus on more positive things like my filial love, my respect for all things sacred, dignity and loyalty to my friends.
I doodle in class and in church. In class I draw random things that I want to draw and I also use Little Big Planet every day. I create things I want to see and create games.
What was your inspiration for writing a book “Hello, My Name is Max and I Have Autism”?M: The thing that inspired me for my book were the life problems that I went through and what I dealt with all of the time. I wanted others to understand what it was like being like me. I thought maybe if they understood it, they would have compassion for other kids with autism
what are your other hobbies?M: Saxophone, guitar, singing, DeMolay, and fencing
What do you like to do for fun?M: Play video games and hang out with my friend Daniel. We play hockey together. I also like to watch YouTube.
What do you want to be when you grow up?M: An artist and writer. I want to teach art and stay immersed in the art community. I'm hoping that Blue Ribbon will continue and we can have a place where we can hold art classes. That would be great.
What is your favorite book?M: Hedix!
What is your favorite place to visit?M: Chicago
Any special message for our community?M: If you have a dream, put it on canvas.
