Celeste’s book, "Since We're Friends: An Autism Picture Book" emphasizes inclusion through a story of friendship between two boys, one who has autism and the other who does not. Can you tell us about the idea behind your book “Since We're Friends: An Autism Picture Book”?C: I had the idea to write my book Since We’re Friends because, at the time, there were no books available to help typical children understand how to be friends with a child with autism.

Who can benefit from reading this book and why?C: This book is best suited for early elementary age students as a tool for discussing how to befriend students who have special needs.


How has your personal experience helped you with writing this book?C: My oldest son, who is now 21 years old, has autism. The character in my book who has autism is based on my son.


What fun activities do you and your kids love to do together?C: I love to travel with my sons.


What is your suggestion for families of children with disabilities to empower their children?C: My suggestion for other special needs families to empower their children is to never stop advocating for their child. No one will ever care as much as you do for your child’s future.
