Dr. Knapp's years of experiences and thorough research have helped him to come up with his book "Parenting a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder". This book provides helpful resources and is great support for parents who have a child with autism. The book includes and emphasizes practical strategies and useful communication tips with the child for effective management of everyday situations. Dr. Knapp is the founder and president of Albert Knapp & Associates (AKA) with a mission of serving the community with quality mental health and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services for children and families. Dr. Knapp belongs to many professional organizations such as the American Psychological Association, Association for Behavior Analysts International, and Association of Professional Behavior Analysts.

Can you tell us about the idea behind your book “Parenting a Child with Autism Spectrum Disorder”?A: I wanted to write an easy to understand book for parents who have a child with autism.

Who can benefit from reading this book?A: Parents of children with autism between 12 months and 17 years of age, and professionals who work with individuals in the same age demographic.


What are some basic concerns for families of children with autism? What are some of the best ways to address these concerns?A: I think some of the basic concerns for families is communication abilities, education, and independence. The best way to address these concerns is to talk about these concerns with professionals who specialize in these concerns.


What can be some effective ways to promote autism awareness?A: Share with the world the wonderful strengths that individuals with autism can do.


What is your suggestion for families of children with disabilities to empower their children?A: To always look for an individual’s strength and use that to teach new skills.
