Useful for the community of people with disabilities TapTapSee helps the blind and visually impaired become more independent in their day-to-day activities by identifying objects they encounter in their daily lives. For example, we've gotten feedback from users who have never been able to go grocery shopping by themselves until using TapTapSee since it's difficult to identify certain grocery items without an aid to help them. It's also very useful at home with identifying clothes colors to put together an outfit as well as identifying items in the cupboard and fridge.
Inspiration behind app Our co-founders, Dominik Mazur and Brad Folkens, had been in the search space for years when their attention shifted to visual search. While creating their own image recognition platform with CloudSight to power their visual search app, CamFind, Dominik and Brad realized that this type of image recognition technology could benefit the blind and visually impaired. Thus TapTapSee was created.
Best Feature Besides the actual object recognition, TapTapSee has the ability to read barcodes and QR codes. Users can also share photos from the app via email, text message, Facebook, and Twitter.
Kind of information an app access or share from the user TapTapSee asks to access a user's photo library (in case the user would like to upload a photo from their device)
How app differentiates from other similar apps As of right now, TapTapSee is the fastest and most accurate object identification app for the blind. Our users usually receive an identification within 10-12 seconds, and the technology behind the application (our CloudSight API, which is also used in our sister app, CamFind) is 4 times more effective than Google's image recognition app, Google Goggles (ref: Cult of Mac)
future enhancements Among other improvements with our current features, we're looking into the possibility of incorporating video identification capabilities in the future!
