Inspiration behind app Total was designed with not only the communicator in mind, but also the SLP, friend, and parent so everyone can join in on the conversation. We wanted to push the boundaries of AAC and introduce a totally new perspective. The idea was to creative a completely intuitive user interface that would facilitate independence. However, we also wanted to bring I never before seen innovative features surrounding customizations, social engagement, and teacher supports.
Best Feature
At the heart of Total Talk’s innovative design is the Magic Button, which intuitively extends the app’s features and language system. Tapping the Magic Button before selecting single verbs, adjectives, or nouns generates a pop-up board of conjugation options. It can also rapidly generate high-frequency word combinations, phrases or even complete sentences. Additionally, the magic button augments all of the dock buttons. For example, you can press speak or magic button before speak which brings up a variety of different ways to output (Emovoice, text, email, airdrop, etc.)! Or press magic button before clear and a host of editing options popup, including the ability to move the cursor between text to edit.
How app differentiates from other similar apps Total Talk offers a completely intuitive user interface designed for easy to use navigation and independence. The idea is that anyone can pick this app up and instantly start using it. Total Talk also offers a first for the field: a free companion app that allows a communicator’s iPad to connect with nearby iPhones (or iPads) via Bluetooth. This breakthrough idea, Total Talk Orbit, can be used in two modes. Tele-Prompt allows a teacher or parent with the iPad to see what’s on the screen of the Total Talk iPad and make suggestions, just like a football announcer does on your TV. Tele-Text allows a Total Talk user to send their messages word by word, using their own symbols, to a nearby iPhone, allowing communication in noisy areas, like restaurants, or also to send a message without others seeing it.
future enhancements We expect to release an update this summer with additional teacher and user supports, including the ability to email and upload individual pages and the ability to edit all popups. Additional customizations include spacing between buttons and the ability to edit font size and border widths.
